  • Superb picture quality; aggressively priced; features galore
  • Not particularly attractive; some of the video-processing tech can be unhelpful
  • Once upon a time, really big TVs tended to do little more with their size than emphasise how inherently poor their pictures were. But, with the Panasonic Viera TH-65PZ800, those days are emphatically over. This screen looks nothing short of sensationa...

  • Big, punchy and exciting pictures with most discs, excellent tuner, well equipped
  • Only that the similarly priced Pioneer is even better

  • Abstract:  As I sit here chained to my PC in a darkened room for yet another day's hard labour watching TV (!), it suddenly occurs to me that my back is ruddy killing me. This is actually not all that surprising when you consider that a few hours ago I was involved...

  • Excellent black levels and color saturation, Eyepopping 1080p detail, THX mode gets the set very close to optimum image quality, 48 Hz mode gives you a smooth cinematic feel for compatible sources, Flexible input/output options, 4:4:4 color support makes...
  • 48 Hz mode produces some flicker which can be distracting, Wide bezel makes the set larger than it needs to be for its screen size
  • The TH-46PZ800U gets the important stuff right, producing outstanding image quality, including excellent color saturation and deep black levels that give the picture an almost three-dimensional quality. The 48 Hz Cinema Mode does eliminate judder but ...

  • The THX mode may not be perfect in every respect, but it creates a very pleasing image natural color, great detail, and minimal digital noise with no or minimal setup effort required on the user's part, This plasma produces a respectably deep black not the deepest we've seen but still quite good so the image has nice saturation in a dark room, The connection options are thorough, and the SD c
  • The new 48Hz mode reduces judder, but it adds noticeable flicker that some people will find even more distracting, This TV isn't as good at upconverting SD content as the best panels we've seen, although it is solid in this respect, Plasma TVs generally aren't as bright as LCDs and therefore aren't the best choice for a really bright room with lots of potential light reflections.
  • The Panasonic/THX collaboration proves to be a good one. The TH-50PZ800U is an excellent performer that rivals the best panels on the market but comes in at a slightly lower price point.Additional Resources• Read more plasma HDTV reviews from HomeTheat...

  • Abstract:  In my review of the LG 50PG60 plasma, I identified its product line as one of only two with THX video certification. The other is Panasonics PZ800 line, which includes a 58-incher as well as the 50-inch TH-50PZ800 reviewed here. Is its THX performan...

  • Abstract:  Panasonic builds from its 2007 plasma TV acclaim by offering up a worthy 2008 successor with the Viera TH-50PZ800U. The amazingly rich and deep Panasonic black levels are back, and new for this model is a THX mode, which further enhances the picture qu...
