  • Since the HDV format demands less computing power than the AVCHD format does, we would steer clear of AVCHD models unless we had an extremely powerful PC. And the Canon HV20 is one of the better HDV models on the market, at a pretty good price to boot...

  • Captures in 24P. Stunning image quality. Good manual controls
  • Feels cheap. Ugly design

  • 10x zoom, Crisp GD footage, Good at night
  • Plasticky build, Small display
  • Reliable rather than racy, but the tortuous PC editing will put most punters off

  • Excellent video quality; handy features; HDMI output; accessory shoe
  • Cant change white balance while shooting; night mode doesnt help poor low-light performance
  • Canons HV20 camcorder is a great choice for HD-happy amateurs, but its low-light performance could have been better ...

  • Much improved ergonomics Gorgeous 1080i video OIS, 2.7-inch widescreen LCD HDMI out
  • Menu system could be more intuitive Uses bulky tapes No editing software
  • It seems Canon took the complaints about the HV10 to heart and solved most of them—including the shape and lack of an HDMI out. They still need to beef up the editing component of the CD ROM, however. Video performance of this new HDV camcorder is t...

  • Abstract:  Sales of high-definition camcorders are increasing rapidly and provide the clearest evidence yet that older, established formats such as MiniDV are approaching obsolescence. Its no surprise when you consider HD-ready TV sets are sweeping aside their a...

  • Great Image Quality 24P Mode Good value
  • Cheap construction Handling
  • Here it is! The king of castle. The Canon HV20 ($1099 MSRP). This camcorder packs in a beautiful image, superb ease of use, and a hearty cluster of manual controls. If you can look beyond its imperfect design and awkward handling, you will be treated t...
